According to different studies, the eyes are considered the most attractive feature of the human body. It’s the very first thing that you notice when you’re talking to someone and it’s the most useful tool that we have in our arsenal since it gives us the ability to see our surroundings. And it’s the main reason why we should always take good care of our eyes since it’s the feature that we mostly rely on on a daily basis. With that being said, have you ever noticed that the majority of overweight people appear to have smaller eyes compared to others? Does that mean that the eyes get bigger when you lose weight?
Eyes are not affected by weight loss so they will not get bigger when you lose weight. When you cut down on fat on your body, the fat stored on your face will decrease, giving off the illusion that the eyes appear bigger and more prominent.
In this article, we’ll talk about what happens to your face when you lose weight and why your eyes get bigger when that occurs.

What Happens To Your Face When You Lose Weight?
In order to answer this question, I’ll talk about my own experience with a close friend of mine that lost almost 50 pounds of fat from his body (because I motivated him). Since I was seeing him almost every day, I could slowly notice the considerable changes that occurred to not just his body but also his face.
The first thing that I noticed was that his face started to get more defined since losing weight made him cut down on some of that roundness from his cheeks and jawline. The entire fulness of his face declined and he appeared a lot more attractive.
The next thing that happened was that he started to lose weight around his neck area which made his face appear bigger and more recognizable since he had a pretty obvious double chin.
And one of the most interesting and surprising changes that occurred to his face was that his eyes appeared a lot bigger than what they used to look before. I asked him how he did it since I knew it would benefit a lot of other people if I shared his formula and he simply said “My eyes didn’t get bigger, it’s just that my face got a lot smaller which accentuated my eyes since everybody was used to my fat face”.
Why Eyes Get Bigger When You Lose Weight?
As you can see from the story of my friend (can’t post pictures of his transformation for privacy purposes), eyes can’t change in terms of size, however, they do appear bigger, and here are the main reasons why:
Effects of Weight Loss on Face
Weight loss has some pretty significant effects on the face as you can see from the transformation of my friend. It cuts down the roundness from the cheeks and the jawline so it appears more defined, it reduces the fat around the neck, and it pretty much accentuates all the features of the face so they look more noticeable including the eyes.
As a general result of weight loss, the face looks significantly smaller, when that happens, the eyes seem a lot bigger than what they used to be. In fact, the more you lose weight, the more your eyes will appear bigger.
Think of it this way, the size of the eyes stays constant throughout the whole body transformation, however, the size of your body will always be changing. So, naturally, when you cut down on all that fat, the eyes appear bigger. And this is especially the case for extremely overweight people since the amount of fat stored on their face squeezes the space that their eyes have so they appear smaller.
Visual Illusion
Since you’re the only person that knows your face pretty well, as well as your friends and family that are close to you, every small change doesn’t go unnoticed. Now imagine if you had a big change like a body transformation, you’ll be surprised in yourself and everybody will notice instantly., especially the change that happened to your face.
When that happens, all the features of the face will instinctively appear bigger for most of your friends and family even though they haven’t changed in size. It’s just a visual illusion that occurs since you and people close to you are not used to your new look and with time, it will become normal again.
Eyes Grow As You Age
Yes, the eyes grow as you age, but hold on a second, this doesn’t mean that they’ll become the size of a ball when you’re 60. In fact, the growth stops in your 20s. If by coincidence, you were overweight and started your body transformation journey before your hit your 20s, then the eyes will naturally grow in size with the addition of the visual growth that occurs when you lose weight. This will make your eyes appear a lot bigger than what they used to look before.
If you’ve started your body transformation journey after your 20s, then your eyes will not change in size and will only appear bigger because of the effects of weight loss on your body and face.
Conclusion:
As you can see from both the story of my friend and the scientific aspect of it, eyes don’t change in size, but your body and face do, which is why they “appear” bigger while in fact, they’re just the same than what they used to look before. It’s just a visual illusion that happens when you cut down the fat on your body unless you started your body transformation journey before your 20s which is when the eyes naturally grow in size.
