Can You Do OrangeTheory Twice a Day?

During these last couple of years, everyone seems to be talking about OrangheTheory Fitness. It’s been slowly rising in popularity since they came up with a new unique approach to training and it seems to be working for a lot of people based on the positive reviews in their communities. With over 800,000 members who work out at more than 1,100 locations, they’re doing something right! With that being said, most of these members tend to train once a day, but what if you want to go beyond that? What if you want to train twice a day? Is that allowed? And is it a good idea?

The corporate policy at OrangeTheory says that taking more than one class a day is not allowed in most studios. However, that rule is not enforced by the corporate and it’s left up to the studio in practice to decide whether or not they want to be strict about it, and the majority of studios don’t enforce it. Even if that’s the case, taking two classes a day is considered overtraining and might do more harm than good.

In this article, we’ll talk about if training twice a day is allowed in OrangeTheory Fitness and if you should really do it.

Is Training Twice a Day Allowed in OrangeTheory Fitness?

can yo do orangetheory twice a day?

Before talking about whether or not it’s a good idea to train twice a day, let’s first establish if it’s even allowed in OrangeTheory studios.

When it comes to corporate policies at OrangeTheory Fitness, taking more than one class a day is not allowed just like you’re not allowed to warm up before each class in most studios. However, that rule is not enforced by the corporate and it’s left up to the studio in practice to decide whether or not they want to be strict about it.

With that being said, some OrangeTheory studios are known to be very strict about these rules, especially the bigger ones since they have a lot of memberships.

If they allow certain members to train more than one time per day, most classes will be full and other members won’t be able to get in.

However, approximately 90% of OrangeTheory studios don’t enforce this policy and will allow you to take up to two classes per day as long as these conditions are met:

  • You stay full-time during both your classes and you’re not allowed to leave either one of them
  • No other member should be on the waitlist for the second class
  • It should not be during peak hours
  • It should not be during a holiday when most people are off-work

Is Doing Two Classes a Day in OrangeTheory a Good Idea?

When you think about it, most OrangeTheory classes are high-intensity interval training (HIIT) since they implement science into their workouts and use something that’s called Heart Rate Based Interval Training, which is just a fancy way of saying burning more calories post-workout as compared to a traditional exercise.

And ultimately, if you give your 100% during your first class which you should normally be doing in an OrangeTheory workout, you shouldn’t be able to do a second one since your body won’t have the ability to recover in time.

And if your goal behind taking two classes per day is to burn twice as many calories, then you’re not really achieving that if you don’t give your body enough time to recover.

Recovery is a crucial factor when it comes to building muscles or losing weight which is exactly why it’s much better to give your 100% during one OrangeTheory class than to give 50% during two separate classes.

It’s fully understandable that some members may not get all of their splat points in one class, but it’s doable if you give it your all.

When you do that, then HIIT will benefit you the most, when you don’t and only give 80% or 60% of your full potential, then you’re much better off doing a steady-state cardio session.

Conclusion:

Although taking two OrangeTheory classes per day is not a good idea, if you have the ability to give your 100% during both classes and you find challenging yourself fun, then you should go for it.

OrangeTheory can be extremely addicting, especially with the different challenges, classes, and events that they offer. If you love the workout so much that you want to do it another time, then no one is gonna stop your dedication.
