Does Planet Fitness Have Racquetball?

Racquetball is, in my opinion, one of the most fun and creative sports out there. Not only does it build strength and quickness in various muscle groups, but playing it improves coordination, agility, balance, and explosiveness. That’s not all there is to it, from a mental point of view, making quick and strategic decisions during a racquetball session can improve mental clarity and decision-making skills. With that being said, what if you’re interested in this sport and wanted to play it in your local gym, will it be available? More particularly, does planet fitness have racquetball?

Unfortunately, all Planet Fitness locations don’t have a racquetball court since it’s a very specific sport that not many people play.

In this article, we’ll talk about the reasons why planet fitness doesn’t have racquetball courts and the alternative things that you can do.

Does Planet Fitness Have Racquetball?

does planet fitness have racquetball

Since Planet Fitness offers machines, fitness equipment, workouts, courts, and studios that are tailored for all kinds of people and all kinds of sports, you’d think that they’d have at the very least a small racquetball court.

Unfortunately, not a single Planet Fitness location offers this service. I used to own a membership there, and since I’m a racquetball fan, I asked around if there were any courts available in my local gym or any other Planet Fitness gym, and the answer was a straight no.

If you’re wondering why that’s the case, there are two main reasons:

First of all, Planet Fitness is known for one major thing, it targets two main types of audiences, beginners that are new to working out and people that really hate training.

With that being said, racquetball is a pretty advanced sport that takes a lot of time and practice in order to get good. Most people that are new to training won’t even know how to use dumbbells or strength machines, so they’ll probably have no idea how to play racquetball and no interest in it.

In addition to that, if you didn’t know, racquetball is a declining sport, meaning that it’s slowly becoming less and less popular and that’s due to several factors.

When played professionally, this fast-paced sport becomes hard to follow for the average viewer, especially when it’s televised. Athletes became way too fast at it which intimidated new players that were interested in it.

As a result, this sport has become a lot less popular than it used to be back when it first started. This made gyms that had racquetball courts transform them into a place for other useful and more popular activities like spin classes for example, and Planet Fitness is no exception to that.

What to Do if Planet Fitness Doesn’t Have Racquetball Courts?

Even though all Planet Fitness locations don’ts have racquetball courts, that doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy this sport, here are your options:

Check Other Gyms

If racquetball is really what interests you the most, then you should probably consider joining other gyms that offer this service instead of joining Planet Fitness. Some major gyms like Life Time Fitness, LA Fitness, Gold’s gym, and Crunch Fitness have racquetball courts depending on the location.

Before joining any of these gyms, make sure to contact them first in order to make sure that your local ones offer this kind of service and then base your decision on that.

Find Places With Racquetballs Courts

Who said that only gyms can offer the possibility of playing racquetball, there are other places like universities and recreation centers that have some of the best racquetball courts out there.

Here is a great resource that I found to know all the available racquetball courts depending on your location.

Play Racquetball at Home

If you really have no other options, you can just play racquetball in the comfort of your own home. I’m not talking about building a custom racquetball court that will probably cost you thousands of dollars, just a simple empty room or garage with a wall can do the trick. Just buy some racquetball equipment, choose a safe place and a partner, warm up, and get to playing.

Here is a step-by-step guide that goes through how to practice racquetball at home.

Conclusion:

Racquetball is one of the most creative and enjoyable sports that anyone can play, too bad that it’s declining in popularity which is why most gyms are converting their racquetball courts to other activities.

If you want to play this amazing sport, it’s better to start playing it as soon as possible while there are still some facilities that offer this service.
