Before answering this question, let me tell you my story. Ever since I was a kid, I can’t remember a day when I wasn’t skinny. It was simply my genetic curse. No matter how much I ate during the day, I would never gain weight. And when I started to grow I got taller, which made me look even skinnier. I was literally a walking stick.

And there was a time when I decided to change my life and body for the better. I was too tired of being “the skinny guy”. I mainly changed two things: My diet and I started weight-lifting. The first thing that I implemented in this new diet of mine is oats. I was searching for the best foods for bodybuilding and they would always be mentioned so I decided to just go for it.

I remember eating them every morning during breakfast. They tasted so good and made me feel so full of energy. And I can say without a doubt that oats –paired with weight-lifting– are one of the main foods that changed my body. I started noticing results from the first couple of months. It’s true that other foods also played a huge role in my weight gain (especially the ones that contain lots of protein) but I personally owe it all to oats. They’re the main food that introduced me to healthy eating and I still consume them every morning to this day.

So what should be the main take from this story? Oats paired with some form of resistance training are the best in order to bulk up and build muscles for skinny guys.

They’re Great For Building Muscles

If you already do some kind of resistance training or you’re just considering it, then oats are your best in order to build those muscles. And as you noticed in the beginning, it worked for me! They contain a rich amount of carbohydrates which are the most essential nutrients for all athletes and bodybuilders since they give you the necessary energy for those hard and intense workout sessions. What’s great about them is that when you consume them, they’ll slowly digest in your body, meaning that sometimes it can take the entire day for your body to fully digest them which is great to constantly stay energized. That’s the main reason why everybody consumes them during breakfast.

They Contain a Lot of Protein

Oats are the only grain that contains a rich amount of essential nutrients and vitamins and at the same time a lot of protein. As I mentioned in the beginning, just a mere 100 grams of oats which is equivalent to a bowl, contains about 17 grams of protein. And the best part is that it can easily be consumed. What I like to personally do during my breakfast, is to mix it with chocolate and milk to get rid of that sour taste that they have. This gives me a solid foundation of energy that helps me stay energized throughout the whole day.

They’re Rich In Magnesium

Oats also contain a rich amount of magnesium (about 50mg per cup). This essential nutrient is involved in many reactions that happen in your body, boosts your physical performance, supports healthy blood sugar levels, increases heart health,  and also helps your muscles to relax after those intense workouts that you put them through.

Conclusion:

Now that you know how oats changed my life for the better and the many benefits that they present, I hope you’re convinced that they’re also good for skinny people. They contain all the essential nutrients that your body needs in order to gain weight and build muscles especially if you perform some kind of physical activity.
